Membership terms

These terms govern CIBET membership. They apply from the point an application is approved and a fee is paid.

Application and admission

  • Applications are free to submit and are assessed by the Membership Committee against the published criteria for the category applied for.
  • Meeting the criteria does not guarantee admission.
  • The Committee may request further information, and may decline an application with reasons.
  • A declined applicant may reapply after [Insert period].
  • Fees are payable only on approval. Membership begins when payment is received.

Activities not admitted

The Council does not admit applications from organisations whose principal activity is [Insert excluded categories — to be agreed by the Governing Council and confirmed by counsel]. Publishing this list is deliberate: an acceptance standard that is not published cannot be relied on.

Member obligations

  • Provide accurate information, and tell the Secretariat when material details change.
  • Comply with the code of conduct.
  • Use the CIBET name only in accordance with the published guidance.
  • Do not extract or resell the member directory, or use it to send unsolicited commercial messages.
  • Pay fees when due.

Term and renewal

Membership runs for the term stated for your category and is renewable. Renewal notices are sent [Insert number] days before expiry. Membership lapses if a renewal fee is unpaid [Insert number] days after the due date.

Suspension and withdrawal

The Council may suspend or withdraw membership where a member breaches these terms or the code of conduct, or where information given in an application proves materially inaccurate. The member will be told the reason and may make representations to the Conduct and Ethics Committee before a final decision. Fees are not refunded on withdrawal for breach.

Resignation

A member may resign at any time by writing to the Secretariat. Refunds, if any, follow the refund and cancellation policy.

Use of the CIBET name

Members may state that they are a member of the relevant CIBET council, for the period of membership. Members may not describe themselves as accredited, certified, endorsed or authorised by the Council, or imply that the Council endorses their products or services.
