How advisory bodies work
An advisory body advises. It does not hold decision-making authority over membership, conduct or finances, all of which sit with named committees of the Governing Board.
- Members are invited for standing in a specific field, and serve fixed terms.
- Affiliations are declared and published, because advisers usually hold senior roles elsewhere.
- An adviser with an interest in a matter withdraws from the discussion on it.
- Advice is recorded, so the Board can be asked what advice it received and what it did with it.

Applications are free to submit and are assessed by the Membership Committee. Fees are payable only if your application is approved.
